A 2009 Field Hockey Camp, run by Sticks Down Field Hockey, will be held Aug. 10-14 at Carl Sandburg Middle School, Route 516, Old Bridge. Old Bridge High School field hockey coach Tammy Heitmann will coordinate the program with assistance from the school's field hockey program. The camp, for kids ages 10 to 15 from the Greater Middlesex County area, is designed to give beginnerlevel players a basic understanding of the game of field hockey and to improve the basic skills to lead to better play. No experience is necessary. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon each day. Equipment will be supplied, if needed, but participants must bring their own mouth guards. The East Brunswick Explosion, a U-19 girls team, seeks to add several dedicated players to its roster. The team, which will train over the winter and compete in the spring season, is professionally trained by Theresa Rossi and coached by Mark Schaff and Matty Cordasco.
