      Spotswood, Helmetta officials raise concerns about costs

      Local officials in Spotswood and Helmetta remain unhappy with the forced merger of their school districts. Following a meeting last week involving representatives of both towns and the state Department of Education, which ordered the consolidation this summer, Spotswood officials said they are concerned the deal will cost their taxpayers $500,000 over the next five years.       Divorced parents of East Brunswick students learned this summer that their children will no longer be bused to and from both parents' homes. Bonny Berger Kelter said she was shocked to receive a letter from the school district in July informing her that she and her ex-husband will no longer receive dual bus passes for their sons, who attend East Brunswick schools.
