Kudos to assemblyman for helping veterans
Iam a Korean War-era veteran. When veterans of World War II returned home from the war, our government provided a number of programs that helped them to assimilate back into everyday life. Today, veterans returning from war also are offered a host of programs including financial assistance to help them obtain a college degree. The problem is that many of those returning from Iraq or Afghanistan aren't aware of what assistance is available.
I must commend Assemblyman Patrick Diegnan Jr. (D-18) for authoring the Troops to College bill, which became the law of the state of New Jersey last week. This legislation requires every public college and university in our state to establish one central office on campus and a website where a veteran can go to get help with any issue, whether it be housing, loans, health care or family issues. No longer will a hero who risked his or her life for our country be forced to say, "I don't know where to go to get answers."
This isn't the first time Assemblyman Diegnan has looked out for our veterans. He is a sponsor of many bills that give them the support and respect they have earned. It's nice to know that a member of the Legislature is looking out for our veterans.
