      Author to discuss making of new novel
            Michael Aaron Rockland will speak on the process of writing his latest novel, "Stones," 7- 8 p.m. Dec. 2 at the East Brunswick Public Library, Jean Walling Civic Center. Rockland, also author of "The George Washington Bridge: Poetry in Steel," is a professor of American Studies at Rutgers University, New Brunswick.

      Columbiettes to host Dec. 6 Christmas Tea
            St. Bartholomew Columbiettes will sponsor its 11th annual Christmas Tea fundraiser at 2 p.m. Dec. 6 at St. Bartholomew's Parish Hall, 460 Ryders Lane, East Brunswick. The event will feature tea, short stories and jazz music. Admission is $12, plus a dish of cookies or snacks to share with the table. Proceeds will go to support local charitable organizations.

            The Central Elementary School PTA Holiday Bazaar is set for 7-9:30 p.m. Dec. 3 in the cafetorium at the school, 371 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick. Admission to the event is free of charge. All proceeds will be used to fund cultural-arts assemblies for students attending Central School.

Barbara DeAngelis of the Alzheimer's Association will discuss the difference between normal age-related memory changes and abnormal changes that are associated with Alzheimer's disease.

            An "Introduction to Microsoft Excel" computer class will be offered 9:15-10 a.m. Dec. 5 at the Monroe Township Public Library, 4 Municipal Plaza. Participants, who will learn how to create basic charts and graphs and perform simple mathematical operations with the spreadsheet program, should be very competent with both a keyboard and mouse.

            Whisker Away Pet Sitting, LLC, Spotswood, is collecting items for homeless pets through Dec. 10. Cat and dog food, toys, treats, towels, blankets, laundry detergent, latex gloves, bleach, garbage bags, paper towels, hand sanitizer, hand soap, peanuts and parrot food are being accepted.
