Takes issue with officials’ words

New Jersey Democratic Assemblyman Patrick J. Diegnan Jr. (D-18) and Assemblyman Peter J. Barnes III (D-18) describe Gov. Chris Christie’s actions on the state budget as “simply wrong” (“Christie’s Action Raids School Funds, Raises Taxes,” Letters to the Editor, Sentinel, Feb. 25). They describe the funds as “not state funds” but “property taxes paid by hard-working middleclass families.” I’ve got news for these geniuses — it’s all our money.

Every last penny that the government at every level has belongs to us. The government took the money and has been spending as it sees fit for decades. And now New Jersey is almost broke. You whine about Gov. Christie’s actions. What have you been doing since you got elected to avoid this mess?

You agree that government must be “leaner and more efficient” but come up with no suggestions of what should be done. You claim you “support efforts to reduce costs.” But what have you actually done to reduce them?

Lastly, you claim, “This is a democracy, and the will of the people must be followed.” Maybe it’s time you started respecting democracy and listen to the will of the people, because it was the will of the people that put Chris Christie in office. Get over it and start working with him instead of against him.
