Rain barrel workshop April 17, 29 at park
The Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Middlesex County will present a “Build a Rain Barrel” workshop at the EARTH Center in Davidson’s Mill Pond Park, 42 Riva Ave, South Brunswick. Registration for the 11 a.m. April 17 workshop is due by April 14. Registration for the 6:30 p.m. April 29 workshop is due by April 26.
A rain barrel is placed under a gutter’s downspout next to a house to collect rainwater from the roof.
Participants will build their own rain barrel and learn how to install it at home. The barrel holds approximately 50 gallons of water that can be used to water gardens. Rainwater harvesting can help save money on your water bill, prevent basement flooding, and reduce flooding in local rivers and streams.
The workshop fee is $45, including the barrel and all materials. Rain barrels sell for over $100 at specialty garden shops.
Plans to transport the 55-gallon drum home should be made in advance. Register by calling 732-398-5262.
