Bicycle Rodeo will ride into S.R.

The South River Police Department will sponsor a Bicycle Rodeo and Public-Safety Day beginning at 9 a.m. June 12 at South River High School, Montgomery Street.

Guests, who will celebrate bicycle safety and learn about the various public-safety services available in the community, will have the opportunity to ask questions, see emergency vehicles and meet and speak with public-safety officials.

The South River Fire Department and Rescue Squad will present a vehicle-extrication demonstration. Paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, will be on hand to demonstrate lifesaving equipment. There will be an opportunity to see the Middlesex County Hazardous Materials (Haz-Mat) unit in action.

The Middlesex County Special Operations Response Team (SORT) will display its specialized equipment. The Sheriff’s Department will conduct its Fingerprint and File program. The New Jersey State Police will present a child-safety-seat demonstration. There will be a visit by NorthSTAR and U.S. Coast Guard helicopters.

Bicyclists must wear a helmet in order to participate. Bicycles and helmets will be given away.

Timbo the Clown will perform a bicycle-trick show. The event also will feature complimentary food and beverages.

Admission is free of charge.
