Get a ‘Taste of Bradley Beach’ Saturday with food, crafts, music

Grove andAvon-by-the-Sea, Bradley Beach has a long history dating back to the 17th century. According to borough history, in the early part of the 20th century Bradley Beach became a popular seaside resort town and continues to draw visitors to its beautiful beaches each summer.

To beat the summer heat, stop in at the Beach Cinema on Main Street, which shows limited- and wide-release films for just $6 on evenings. Monday night is bargain night at the theater with tickets just $4.50, according to the Bradley Beach Chamber of Commerce. Call 732-774-9089 to find out what movie is playing.

The Bradley Beach Bowl & Recreation Center, Main Street, has been around since 1959, according to the center’s website. The bowling alley offers specials with dis- counted games and shoes along with weekend events. Bradley Beach dunes Bradley Beach dunes Dining at the Jersey shore is a popular pastime, and Bradley Beach is no exception. Take a stroll along Main Street, where you will find a variety of different restaurants to suit your tastes.

On Saturday, May 21, you can experience the delicious cuisine that Bradley Beach has to offer during the first “Taste of Bradley Beach” event.

The event, presented by the Bradley Beach Chamber of Commerce and the Passion Group of Asbury Park, will feature a tasty array of food from local restaurants. Craft vendors will also be on hand with oneof a-kind merchandise; children’s activities and music will also be featured. Adults with proper ID will be able to purchase beer and wine.

“Taste of Bradley Beach” will kick off at 11 a.m. in Riley Park, running until 7 p.m. In the event of rain, the tasting will be held Sunday, May 22.


Bradley Beach train station Bradley Beach train station This beautiful beach town will launch the official start of the summer season with a Memorial Day parade on Saturday, May 28. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at Bradley Boulevard and Ocean Avenue.

That weekend also features an art and crafts fair on May 28 and May 29 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Bradley Beach Promenade. With its lovely beaches, a perfect way to enjoy a warm, sunny day in Bradley Beach is to hit the waves.

Beach badges are required every weekend beginning Memorial Day weekend, with daily badges required from June 20 through Labor Day. Lifeguards are on duty on Bradley Beach’s shores from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Weekday rates are $7 per day and $8 per day on weekends and holidays, according to the borough’s website.

Fishing is allowed on beach jetties at Lake Terrace, Park Place, Brinley Avenue and SecondAvenue at the discretion of lifeguards, according to the borough’s website.

If the diversions of tanning and playing in the water get a bit boring, Bradley Beach has a miniature golf course right on the beach. Bradley Beach Miniature Golf is located at Boardwalk and McCabe Avenue.

The 10th annual Robert J. Foti Golf Event is scheduled at the course for Aug. 13, with a rain date of Aug. 14. Foti is a fallen firefighter who died during the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks in New York City, according to the event description.

This summer, Lobster Fest returns to Bradley Beach on July 16 for its third year. The event, hosted by the Bradley Beach Chamber of Commerce, features seafood, music, crafters and children’s activities. There will be plenty to do during this eighthour event. Lobster Fest will be held at the FifthAvenue gazebo from noon until 8 p.m. The rain date for the event is July 17.

If the thought of summer traffic has you worried about a visit to Bradley Beach, the train is always an option.

NJ Transit’s North Jersey Coast Line has a stop right on Main Street in Bradley Beach so visitors can beat the traffic jams by traveling via train. According to NJ Transit, the North Jersey Coast Line runs from NewYork Penn Station all the way down to Bay Head. Upon exiting the train, visitors will be at the beach after walking about a mile down shady Brinley Avenue.

With its convenient location, beautiful beaches and various forms of entertainment, Bradley Beach is a Jersey shore treasure to check out this season.
